PORT TOWNSEND – 6/1/13 – With nearly 45 years of business history between them, the owners of the Silverwater Café and the Rose Theatre – long-time next door neighbors – are setting out to merge the best of both businesses into a new venture called The Starlight Room.

Alison Powers and David Hero of the Silverwater, and Rocky Friedman of the Rose will be opening their new food/cocktail/movie venue this summer on the third floor of the Silverwater building at 237 Taylor Street.

“It’s a stunning space with commanding views of Admiralty Inlet, and ever since I first saw it I’ve wanted to show movies up there,” says Friedman.  So last summer as he was preparing to convert the Rose to digital projection, he proposed the merger to Powers and Hero.

“It sounded so wonderfully crazy, that David and I jumped in immediately, and the three of us have been talking this idea into existence since last summer,” says Powers.

The third-floor space, with floor-to-ceiling black-out curtains, is currently used for privately catered events through the Silverwater.  The Starlight Room turns the space into a 21 and over public venue.  The partners do have the option of designating time for under 21 attendance.

Moviegoers will purchase tickets at the Rose box office, and then ascend to the Starlight Room via the elevator or grand staircase.  Once inside, patrons will find a beautiful new bar where they can order beer, wine (by the glass or bottle), or a cocktail, and food from a menu that Powers is creating especially for the new venue.  David’s famous Silverwater desserts and Rose popcorn with all the seasonings will also be on hand.

Entering the main room patrons will be treated to a stunning downtown view, with cushy  chairs and loveseats for eating and watching the movie.  And in true Rose fashion, the host will close the curtains at show time before announcing, “Good Evening, Welcome to the Starlight Room.”
